Our journey into Coding/Computational Thinking has been met with a lot of reflection on pedagogy of Early Years and how to use technology as a TOOL FOR THINKING vs. something to keep them busy. We deeply desire to enable our children to be digitally literate 'producers' rather than just 'consumers' of tech. As Early Years Educators, our pedagogy is deeply rooted within an inquiry model and we have been working toward expanding our thinking of how coding/computational thinking fit with this. The best visual we have come up with is take from Mackenzie (2016). This image captures the stages of inquiry that begin with some explicit teaching/training but build up to deep end creation, innovation, critical thinking, collaborating etc.
