Although symmetry falls under the umbrella of spatial reasoning, in our journey through learning and thinking about spatial reasoning, we discovered that symmetry (especially in early years/FDK) was HUGE and a great beginning to start our learning adventure on!
This symmetry map was developed/generated to help us 'Notice and Name' the thinking related to symmetry in our class. It is designed into 4 corners we spent time thinking/researching and the extension that expanded out from them. This map also helped us as educators be 'Curious' and 'Creative' in thinking about 'Next Steps'/How to scaffold learning.
This has some more detailed instructions/ideas/links to help think of what to do to scaffold students at different stages of map. Includes: - Symmetry # Talks slides - Assessment tasks - Games/Apps/Websites
