What did I see: During the hole punch symmetry challenge Bruce (2016, p.94). Children were easily able to imagine what the paper would look like once it was unfolded. Children identified the concept as symmetry. folding diagonally resulted in a discussion about where the dots would end up, but all other q's were answered quickly and accurately. The diagonal fold answers were correct answer vs. opposite corner on side they could not see
What do I think: Students understand the concept well enough to visualize answers. Ss could reason about where the dot would be when unsure along the diagonal fold. pointing and gesturing as they tried to explain their answers. What do I know: In Taking Shape, Bruce (2016) Visualizing is an important part of understanding symmetry.
